Fall Fishing on Weiss Lake

September
Mid to Late summer still shows water temperatures rather warm. But an unseasonably cool August may show water temperatures lower than normal by early October. Largemouth bass will still be found around weeds, brush and stumps in shallow water. Some will remain deep as during late summer. The lake will be dropping by the first week of October. By the end of October the lake will be down several feet for winter pool and weeds will be high and dry. Use extreme caution when navigating.

October
By the first week of October Weiss Lake is in the process of falling for winter pool. It has been down as low as 6 feet in the years past, but recent years have shown Weiss Lake with a less severe drop of only 1- 4 feet by late October. As the lake is drawn down, aquatic weeds that produced bass recently will be dry and dying, showing bass retreating to nearby wood and rock cover.

November
By November the lake will be down for winter pool. Navigation is hazardous for first timers. Most weeds are dead or out of the water with lake levels down for the next 6 months. Schooling bass can erupt at any time in November, as they continue to feed and fatten up for the upcoming winter. Keep a topwater lure rigged along with mid running crankbaits, shallow running crankbaits, floating and suspending jerkbaits and rattletraps for active bass. Jig combos now become the number one bass bait for the bigger bass of fall on Weiss Lake.
